A requirement for building regulation approval is the number of staircases required and their specific use and locations. 

  • Single direction/staircase on storage floor – 25m
  • Single direction/staircase on office floor – 18m 
  • Multiple directions/staircases on storage floor – 45m
  • Multiple directions/staircases on office floor – 45m

Fire Rating building regulations

Under building regulations, the underside of your mezzanine floor my require the installation of a fire rated suspended ceiling complete with fire rated fascia and column cases. you will need a fire rating if your mezzanine falls into any of the following.

  • The Mezzanine floor size is larger than 400m².
  • The size of the mezzanine floor exceeds 50% of the room its installed in.
  • The number of people walking on mezzanine exceeds 3 people at any one time.
  • The mezzanine is longer than 20m in any direction.
  • The mezzanine floor is to be used for any other purpose than storage and maintenance.
